Jay-Z Does Geek Chic???
July 8th, 2008 by DannyBoy

Jay-Z turned up on English television program, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, rocking a full ‘Geek Chic’ look. Undoubtedly an all-round hip-hop and business innovator and owner of his own label, his style icon status has been greatly overrated.
Jay’s true gift has always been bringing style to the street, but is never truly ahead of the curve which is why it works. But Geek Chic? Is Jay now taking style cues from back-packers and hipster rock bands?
He appeared on the program in beige jacket, ‘Globe-trotter’ scarf tied into the loop of his jeans and, of course, huge goofy prescription lenses. But with quotes like “home was like the cliché of rough…when I was nine I saw someone shot for the first time” and “my favourite is heartfelt music… I listen to Coldplay, 50 Cent, Kanye West,” he definitely has this interview thing down!

Karl Lagerfeld’s Road Safety Campaign
July 8th, 2008 by DannyBoy
After starring as a DJ in GTA4 and making a diet book, Karl Lagerfeld decided to take on a road safety campaign. The text reads “It’s yellow, it’s ugly, it doesn’t go with anything, but it could save your life”. Slightly more sage advice than what was given out in his dieting book. Via Brandish.tv

The Wackness: Classic Purple Mix TAPE. FREE DOWNLOAD!!!
July 8th, 2008 by DJ RIF
I gotta give props to one of the dopest little promo items I’ve seen in a while!
It seems that a few lucky people who attended special screenings for The Wackness starring Ben Kingsley and Method Man, were given an O.G. style Mix TAPE… and if you peep the photo above you’ll see that I mean Mix TAPE!!! In a classic Raekwon Cuban Linx Purple to boot!!!
For those of us who weren’t lucky enough to cop one of the actual tapes, they’ve posted a link to download it for free (because who actually has a cassette deck laying around to listen to it in the first place? LOL).
I had to post it because it actually has a dope ass line up of some good Rare and Classic Hip Hop.

Jermaine Dupri Ready to Make His Mark With Tag Records…
July 7th, 2008 by DannyBoy
By ROBERT LEVINE - NY TIMES
The hip-hop and R&B producer Jermaine Dupri has discovered best-selling acts like Kris Kross and Da Brat, has produced hits for Mariah Carey and Jay-Z, and now runs the urban music division of the Island Def Jam Music Group. He’s also looking for fresh talent for a new label financed by a company new to the music industry.
The new player? Procter & Gamble.
The consumer goods giant is part of a wave of companies getting into the music business to promote their own products, essentially becoming record labels themselves.
Procter & Gamble, for example, is joining Island Def Jam in a joint venture called Tag Records, a label that will sign and release albums by new hip-hop acts. It is named after a brand of body spray that P.& G. acquired when it bought Gillette.
And Mr. Dupri, a music-industry veteran and the longtime partner of the singer Janet Jackson, sounds quite pleased with his new gig.
